Meet The Route Setters

Sam Van Boxtel

Sam is a climber from Vancouver, Washington. He grew up into lots of sports but didn't find climbing until he was 14. He is now four years into his climbing journey and has been climbing basically every other day since he started!

What's your favorite part of route setting?

My favorite part about route setting is coming to work not knowing how the day will turn out but knowing I'll be able to be creative and solve problems!

What's the biggest challenge for you when route setting?

It's gotta be accommodating all heights, skills, abilities, strengths, weights, and weaknesses. Making sure there are things for everyone to climb and feel progression

Jacob Engelhardt

Jacob is a climber from Vancouver, Washington. He has always had a passion for the outdoors but never tried climbing until his older brother took him one day. Ever since then Jacob has been climbing nonstop and it is now his passion

What's your favorite part of route setting?

I love the creativity that is involved in setting. It is super exciting to be able to gain knowledge and learn new things every day. It has definitely made me more of a creative person and has expanded my climbing knowledge.

What's the biggest challenge for you when route setting?

The biggest challenge for me is picking the right holds to use. I’m not very good with matching colors.
